Three Tenure-Track Assistant Professor positions in Mathematics at the Mathematics Institute (IMA) of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso 2021

PUCV is a traditional Chilean university located in the historic city of Valparaíso. It has a vibrant community of approximately 1400 academics and 17800 students and is committed to both high-quality research and service to society through teaching, diffusion, and financial support for students. The Institute of Mathematics offers undergraduate, Master, and Ph.D. programs in Mathematics. Additionally, a Master’s program in Scientific Computing is about to be initiated.

We are looking to fill three tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in any area of Mathematics. Preference will be given to strong candidates who can contribute to the Ph.D. program in Mathematics.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Mathematics, strong research potential, and a commitment to teaching. The ability to obtain grants with national and/or international funding is highly valued. In addition, in order to support the development of researchers, PUCV funds internal research projects (as a way of promoting applications to external funds) and offers reduced teaching duties for active researchers.

The teaching load is 1 course per semester, and some administrative activities are expected. It is expected that the professor will be able to teach courses in Spanish during the second year of his contract. The University offers Spanish courses if necessary.

The contract will be renewable annually for up to 4 years. After 3 years, the professor must initiate the academic tenure process. The initial annual salary is approximately CLP 22700000, distributed in 12 months. This is usually complemented with financial incentives for grants and publications (for example, approx. CLP 2500000 for a Q1 WoS publication). Salary will be increased in accordance with evaluation once the professor undergoes the academic tenure process.

The deadline is January 17, 2021, and we strongly encourage the applicants to submit their applications using www.mathjobs.org. We also accept applications by email to concurso.ima@pucv.cl. Pre‐selected applicants will be contacted at the end of January and will be interviewed online in the second half of February 2021. The starting date of the appointment is expected to be August 1, 2021, however, an earlier or later date could be considered.
