Eighth Math Webinar in English

The Panamanian Foundation for the Promotion of Mathematics (FUNDAPROMAT) welcomes you to join our Eighth Math Webinar in English, which will take place on Wednesday, September 1st, 2021 at 5 pm Panama time, 6 pm EDT. This Webinar is free and open to the general public, which means that kids and adults of all ages are welcome to attend.    In this Eighth Math Webinar in English, our invited speaker, Deanna Haunsperger, Professor of Mathematics at Carleton College, will be presenting on “Mathematical Gems from Math Horizons.” What do a square-wheeled bicycle, a 17th-century French painting, and a mathematical card trick all have in common? They appear among the many interesting articles that have appeared in Math Horizons. Math Horizons, the undergraduate magazine published by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA), introduces students to the world of mathematics outside the classroom. In this virtual event, we will explore some highlights from the first ten years of Horizons. It should be noted that there will be no simultaneous translation into Spanish provided during this virtual event.   The instructions to access this Webinar will be sent by email the day before the event to all those who register.
